RYA Powerboat - Level 2

Duration: Two days
Cost per person: £265 (minimum of 2 students)
One to one tuition: £405
Prerequisites: At least 12 years of age. No experience required.

The RYA Powerboat Level 2 course is extremely popular as it provides a starting point for those who wish to be safe and competent boaters. Whether you have recently purchased a powerboat and want to learn the basics under the watchful eye of a patient and experienced instructor, need to get your International Certificate of Competence (ICC) so that you can use your boat abroad or want to give powerboating a try to see if it's for you, the Level 2 course is the best way forward.

On the course you will cover:

► Launching & recovery

► Boat handling at slow speed

► Securing to a buoy

► Anchoring

► Leaving and coming alongside

► Boat handling on the plane (high speed) and use of power tilt & trim

► Recovering a man overboard

► Basics of navigation and passage planning

► Different types of craft and the advantages & disadvantages of each, including engines & drives

► Safety checks & personal buoyancy

► Awareness of other water users & what the collision regulations mean in practice

► Coping with emergency situations

Upon successful completion of the course, you will be awarded the RYA Level 2 Powerboat Certificate with Coastal Endorsement, which can be used to apply for your International Certificate of Competence (using the form available here). You will need to supply a passport sized photograph on the day of the course and agree to the RYA holding your information electronically so that your certificate can be registered. Certificates cannot be issued without being registered. An extra fee may be levied if candidates do not provide a photograph at the time of the course. Candidates under 16 will have their certificates endorsed "The holder should only use powered craft under the supervision of a responsible adult".
